Client Services
The goal of Marotta Asset Management, Inc. is to help our clients reach their goals while providing excellent service. The services we offer our clients include:
- Comprehensive Financial Planning
Our financial planning team provides clients with cash-flow analysis, savings plans, gifting strategies, capital needs analysis (life insurance), debt reduction, home-purchase analysis, life transitions planning, and estate planning solutions.
-
Investment Management
Each client receives a custom-designed asset allocation plan to help them accomplish their financial goals.
-
Education Planning
We help our clients meet their college funding goals by designing age-specific portfolios in tax-efficient 529 college plans. Our work for each client is tailored to meet his or her specific college savings goal. We then monitor and annually rebalance each account to ensure savings and investments are on target to meet educational funding goals.
-
Retirement Planning
Where appropriate, a personalized retirement plan is developed and reviewed annually. We also handle all paperwork for the IRS required minimum distributions from retirement accounts.
-
Employee Benefits
We provide investment advice on employee benefits plans. Although we do not consider 401(k) accounts as “assets under management,” we offer free asset allocation and savings advice for our client’s accounts annually. We also offer expertise in employee stock option purchases and divestiture.
-
401(k) Services
We set-up and maintain low cost 401(k) plans that offer a large variety of investment options to meet our client’s specific needs for their business.
- Insurance Advice
We are fully licensed to provide insurance advice. With over 30 years of experience in insurance, we can legally provide a full review of our clients’ insurance and offer guidance on appropriate levels of coverage. Because we receive no compensation in any form for insurance consulting, our clients can be assured we provide objective advice.
-
Tax Planning
There are multiple ways we help our clients reduce their taxes. We utilize a tax-efficient strategy of positioning assets in accounts to minimize taxable income and maximize deductions and return on investment. We also work with our clients’ tax professionals to ensure effective long-term tax planning strategies.
-
Charitable Giving
We help our clients through the rewarding process of charitable giving. Our clients receive advice on investment selection and timing to maximize giving and minimize taxes. We provide the administrative support necessary to oversee the entire gifting process.
-
Foundations and Philanthropy
We provide investment advice to foundations, trusts, and charities. Investment committees bear an important fiduciary responsibility. We offer guidance on prudent investment practices and ongoing investment management services to aid committees in fulfilling their fiduciary duty.
-
Estate Planning
When appropriate, we recommend the services of an estate planning attorney. We welcome the opportunity to work in tandem with estate planning professionals to ensure proper gifting strategies and wealth transfers. We review estate plans to ensure overall ‘fit’ with the client’s long-term financial plan.
-
Intergenerational Planning
We offer investment advice for the whole family, managing assets for grandparents, children, and grandchildren. We are happy to provide investment advice for client family members who otherwise may not meet our client minimums.
Client Benefits
-
Lifetime Relationship: Many clients have shared how their previous transaction-based advisors became inaccessible when the trading dropped off or when they were unable to buy more products. We are committed to helping our clients build their net worth and manage their financial affairs wisely for the rest of their life.
-
Professional Responsibility: Legally, NAPFA Registered Financial Advisors are "fiduciaries." A fiduciary is "an individual, company or institution that has a legal duty to put the interests of their clients above their own." Most stockbrokers, insurance agents and financial planners have no legal obligation to represent their client’s best interests. As fiduciaries, we are legally bound to act in our client’s best interest.
-
Low Expenses: We work with low transaction fee discount brokers, no-load or low-load investments, with no or low transaction costs, low expense ratios and low portfolio turnovers. Our Quarterly Report provides each client with a time weighted return net of all expenses and fees.
-
Exclusive Access: As a financial advisor, we have access to closed-end funds and higher return cash funds not available to either the retail client or smaller investor.
-
International Expertise & Experience: Our experience with the foreign markets allows us to use a broad range of foreign investments where appropriate.
-
Actually Helpful Advice: When our clients ask us a question or approach us with a need, we keep the response short and simple. Our focus is on the solution, not the presentation.
-
Protection: Everyone makes mistakes. Our clients just make fewer. When asked, we more than earn our fee by advising our clients what not to buy.
-
Reporting Services: Each client receives our Quarterly Report with investment performance numbers for the previous three months, year to date, last 18 months and since inception. Realized Gain Loss Reports are mailed in January.
-
Commissions Protection: Almost all of your financial objectives can be reached without having to purchase commissioned-based products sold by stockbrokers and insurance agents. The savings of bypassing commission driven products sometimes more than covers our fee.
-
Ongoing Financial Counsel: Our preferred fee structure, based on a percentage of assets under management, is intended to foster “open door” communications with our clients. Clients are encouraged to contact us throughout the year before they make large financial decisions or whenever they have financial questions - at no additional charge. Having worked in the financial services market for 30 years, we also have numerous contacts for our clients’ legal, housing, accounting, and insurance needs who we know will represent our client’s best interests. In return, we receive NO compensation, direct or indirect.
-
Personal Information Security: We store multiple backups of all client correspondence and financial transactions. Our clients can rest assured that all their financial records are safely stored and can be retrieved at a moment’s notice.
-
Privacy: All communications are kept in the strictest of confidence.
-
Financial Continuity: The death of a spouse is a vulnerable time for the widow/widower. The foresight of establishing a relationship with a trustworthy fee-only advisor can provide a vital link of financial continuity.
-
Computer Savvy: Our computer backgrounds have equipped us well to embrace and optimize the technologies available to serve our clientele.
-
Internet Services: We are constantly working on our website to enhance the benefits available from our firm that will help our clients view their account(s), monitor their portfolio and pursue their financial goals.
-
Seminars: Throughout the year, our firm offers free seminars to the community. Prospects and clients are welcome to learn more about a variety of topics in a pressure-free environment.
-
Weekly Advice: We publish weekly articles on a range of investment topics. Our weekly email publication, "Money Advice Through the Year," is sent to a large subscription list. You are welcome to subscribe at http://emarotta..com/mailman/listinfo/moneyadvice. Our articles also appear in our local newspaper, The Daily Progress, each Monday in the Charlottesville Business Journal.
