Finding countries where you can plant your investments in
fertile soil may be one of the most important asset
allocation decisions you make for the next several years. In 2002 I coauthored a column with my father, George
Marotta, entitled "Will the US Go the Way of Japan?" in the
"Charlottesville Business Journal. " Our answer to the
question was no. We argued that when the United States has
an Enron go under, there isn't a too-big-to-fail syndrome. But when a large Japanese company is in danger of failing,
the government comes to the rescue.

Free NCEF Seminar: Where in the World Should You Invest? by David John Marotta
On Tuesday, March 29, from 7:00-8:00pm there is a free NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation (NCEF) Seminar at Charlottesville's Northside Library. The speaker is David Marotta, and the topic is "Where in the World Should I Invest?"
The talk will focus on foreign investing, and what criteria you should use when considering country-specific investing.
My wife and I are celebrating our twenty-fifth wedding
anniversary this month. Our oldest child is now a freshman
in college and our youngest is a sophomore in high school. The financial planning issues that were important during the
first half of our marriage become critical as a couple
enters the second half. The second half of marriage can either be the best time of
life or the time when a marriage breaks up. The transition
can catch unsuspecting couples off guard.
